Sports Premium Funding

The government has provided additional funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport at school. It is designed to develop and add to sporting activities and events within the school. It is used to ensure that improvements made will benefit current pupils and those in the future to develop healthy lifestyles.

Our aim is to ensure that we promote and develop a curriculum that is enriched in building skills through sports that the children can use to develop lifelong healthy lifestyle choices. They will have to opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sporting activities and compete in a range of sports at different competitive levels.

Swimming Provision and Outcomes

As part of the National Curriculum for P.E., pupils are expected to be able to swim 25m unaided by the time they leave junior school. This is usually taught in a block of 6 sessions in year 5 using qualified swimming teachers at Camberley Leisure Centre.

In September 2021, 2022 and 2023, swimming lessons were provided for children in both Years 5 and 6. This was because of the low number of children achieving the required standard in Year 5. This is believed to be a legacy of the pandemic when children were not able to go swimming and a result of the local swimming pool closing down.

The outcome for Year 5 and 6 pupils in Autumn 2023 are as following:

Year Group Number of children in the year group Number of children who met the national curriculum requirement Percentage
5 71 25 35%
6 75 54 72%

The outcome for year 5 in Autumn 2022 (current Year 6 children) were as follows:

Year Group Number of children in the year group Number of children who met the national curriculum requirement Percentage
5 74 8 10.8%
